It’s great to be back in Malawi and I’m really surprised how green everything is. While the South of the country has been suffering atrocious flooding, the North has benefitted from the rains and everything is fresh and green. The rains are ending and harvests are underway which makes this a more hopeful time of year.
Not all is rosy though: in Mzimba district in the North, there is a ban on animal slaughtering and livestock movements because of foot and mouth disease. It must be a real challenge to enforce restrictions like that when a family may have only two or three animals and they are their prized assets – my picture taken yesterday (through the car window) shows the ban is not working so well!
Now settled in Mzuzu, the work starts in earnest tomorrow as I meet members of our growing staff team for planning, training and inspiring. We have so much to be grateful for, especially the support of the loyal readers of my musings on here. I look forward to keeping you up to date over the next couple of weeks.
